Folkestone Invicta 3 Ramsgate 2 match report: Champions presented with Isthmian Premier trophy after two-goal Jake Hutchinson and Nathan Paul-Lavaly lead them to another win at Cheriton Road

Champions Folkestone Invicta completed the double over Ramsgate before they were presented with the Isthmian Premier trophy on Easter Monday.

Two-goal Invicta top scorer Jake Hutchinson’s efforts sandwiched goals from Billy Munday and Solomon Ogunwomoju to leave the match level at half-time.

Nathan Paul-Lavaly then came up with the game’s all-important goal before Rams midfielder Eze Ebuzoeme was dismissed as it finished 3-2 at Cheriton Road.

The derby ended with the exact same scoreline in late December at Southwood.

Both teams created chances in front of a bumper attendance of 2,5952 - the biggest of this season - inside the first four minutes.

Away skipper TJ Jadama’s near-post flick from a corner by Alfie Paxman glanced against the post before home midfielder Ryan Kingsford was thwarted by goalkeeper Dillon Addai.

Addai again had to be alert as he got down low to save fellow Bromley loanee Paul-Lavaly’s seventh-minute effort.

The away team threatened again but Folkestone keeper Ted Collins used his legs to deny Greg Cundle.

They did draw first blood in the 13th minute, though, as fellow midfielder Munday found himself totally unmarked to nod in Paxman’s corner for his eighth goal this season.

But the hosts equalised out of virtually nowhere on the half-hour mark.

A Kingsford free-kick was flicked on by young defender Joel Odeniran and Hutchinson remained alive to fire into the top corner.

Invicta were presented with a gift of a second goal when the visitors played the ball back to Addai, who was dispossessed by Hutchinson. That left him with an easy task of stroking into the empty goal to take his tally to 25 goals for the campaign.

And three minutes later, the 23-year-old former Colchester striker headed home a delightful cross, only to be denied on that occasion by the offside flag.

But Lee Martin’s visitors hit back again when the recalled Ogunwomoju saw his header from a left-wing cross by Benedict Bioletti just about beat the outstretched Collins with 43 minutes played.

Five minutes after the break, Ramsgate came close to a third when Ogunwomoju sent a right-wing delivery by Munday inches wide of Collins’ left-hand post.

Forward Ade Yusuff then pinched a loose ball for Folkestone but screwed wide.

The away team were reduced to 10 men midway through the second period when Ramsgate’s Ebuzoeme caught Yusuff with a high foot and left referee Kane Dempster with little other choice.

Incredibly, it was the third fixture in a row between the sides the Rams’ ex-Invicta midfielder had been sent-off in.

Odeniran hit the post for the hosts from a left-wing cross by substitute Joe Pigott.

But Invicta retook the lead when teenager Paul-Lavaly made it 3-2 with 17 minutes to play. He drilled into the bottom corner from substitute Sam German’s through ball.

Seven minutes later, Ogunwomoju headed a Paxman corner just over at the back post.

Hutchinson had a hat-trick firmly in his sights but was thwarted by the on-rushing Addai on 85 minutes.

Invicta held on throughout four minutes of injury time, however, and can still reach the 100-point mark if they win all their remaining fixtures this season.

The Rams had graciously given Folkestone’s title-winning players a guard of honour before kick-off.

Invicta manager Jay Saunders made five changes from their starting line-up that had clinched the title with a 2-1 success at St Albans two days earlier.

They saw Odeniran, Paul-Lavaly, Kingsford, Ronnie Dolan and Yusuff come in for Sam German, Montel McKenzie, Alex Woodyard, Donell Thomas and Pigott.

Kingsford, 24, left Ramsgate for Folkestone for an undisclosed fee in January.

For the Rams, who had boss Martin on the substitutes’ bench once again, one of just four options, Ogunwomoju and Ebuzoeme replaced Kweku Lucan and TQ Addy.

Invicta travel to Whitehawk this weekend while Martin’s men are at home to promotion-chasing Billericay - days before their Velocity Cup final against Wingate & Finchley next Wednesday.
