Car veers off A260 Canterbury Road in Folkestone and crashes through barrier near steep embankment

Police sealed off a road after a car veered off the carriageway and crashed through a barrier near a steep embankment.

Officers shut the A260 Canterbury Road in Folkestone yesterday afternoon between the junctions of Crete Road West and the roundabout at the junction of Fleming Way.

There are local reports the vehicle crashed through a barrier and went onto the embankment, but this has not yet been confirmed by authorities.

Kent County Council, commenting in its capacity as the highways authority, said: “A highways officer responded this morning to reports of a car crashing into barriers.

“The officer assisted, and a specialist vehicle had to be used to recover the car.

“The road was closed and then reopened after investigations were complete to check the safety of the road.”

It has not been confirmed whether anyone was injured in the incident or what caused the crash.

Neither has it been confirmed how far down the embankment the vehicle travelled.

However, locals did comment on a local Facebook group saying the road was slippery.

There is also a sign at the top of the hill warning of an adverse camber.

KentOnline contacted Kent Police and the ambulance service for more information yesterday, but they have yet to respond.
